This was a longer, return trip. We used the hotel as a base for some walks, plus use of the spa facilities. The evneing meals were excellent and the whole experience was relaxing. May well return in a few months.
Very relaxing and food excellent. All staff were very helpful. We stayed there 40 years ago for our Honeymoon, and returned last week for our Ruby Wedding Anniversay, this was our 3rd visit and again everything was superb.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough and will certainly return in the future. The staff could not do enough enough for you and the food was was wonderful. You have to visit the hotel to appreciate the setting and views. It is just a few minutes from Keswick so you are close to a small town for a theatre and shops.
Lovely surroundings, great spa and gym facilities. Food was lovely and hotel room was relaxing
Great spa especially outdoor hot tub and thermal rooms great views from bar area
Restaurant food ok but lacked flavour , no drinks in room .
Good service, with staff being keen to help you without the staff being overintrusive.
I loved everything about the spa at the Armathwaite.
Very relaxing and quite a different world.
Room got very warm had portable xpelair fan not suitable, just moves hot air about room maybe hotel could use plug in portable air coolers. this is a suggestion for the future these can be used in summer and winters Note this not a complaint against the hotel maybe somthing hotel should consider, rather than use xpelair fans.
The hotel is in an idyllic settting overlooking the lake. A very comfortable room (club double) which was situated near the spa with a partial view of the lake was spacious for our needs although my wife complained that the pillows were hard. we were on a half board tarriff and ate in the hotel for two nights on their 'gourmet' menu. The first evening meal was spectacular but the illusion of luxury was spoilt by an indifferent experience the following evening.
When paying these prices you want everything to be perfect and a little bit special, mostly this was the case but occasionally the service was not what it should have been. Breakfast is buffet style which I am not a big fan of as we are late risers and the food tends to be passed best - still don't let this put you off if you have a big appetite you can fill up with as much as you like! I should mention that there was a wedding on during our stay and the corridor next to our bedroom was quite noisy at times - until quite late.
Excellent levels of service in the main hotel and the spa. The spa facilities were also excellent.
Although the food was good and of high standard this is where the hotel could improve.
Our daughter was married there and the staff were wonderful. The service was perfect and the wedding breakfast excellent. could not fault it. Was quite expensive though, got what we paid for.
The food was excellent as were the spa facilities and staff. We both had a massage treatment in the spa which was very relaxing and the hush room afterwards was great.
There was no fridge in the room and there was a wedding everyday which was slightly intrusive.
I liked the superb location, grounds and facilities, the cleanliness, and the general upmarket clientel.
I tried to purchase guiness in the lounge bar but was told they sold it in the spa bar, if i fancied the walk !!, I was under the impression that the Bar staff were there to serve the customers? The Bar person concerned was the larger of the two working the lounge bar.
Cooperation and friendliness of all the staff . the spa and swimming pool facilities were excellent and so were the changing rooms
Breakfast buffet was a little sparse . could have had a wider selection of fruit . massage facility etc not really my cup of tea . I think also in the swimming pool there was not much visible supervision were you relying totally on parents to supervise ?
The bed was too short my feet hung over the end. I had to have my head against the board with the pillow below my shoulders. I tried without a pillow and It was uncomfortable. I did not complain as I only discovered that at night and the next day I thought no pillow would resolve this which it didnt. I am 6ft 1in t all this is the first time I have experienced this.
